It’s interesting to see how this scene unfolded. Jay being a true friend, a good partner, and willing to give up control over the bomb to keep Ash’s head in the game. Having drawn the “Hug the Crocodile” card a second time is what made me go down that road for him. And he played so well into Ash’s own insecurities
Insecurities which were caused mostly by her own card for this scene. “Not my job” led me to approach this scene with concern and apprehension from Ash’s point of view. There is even a brief moment where she thinks about going away with Bill. But she quickly realizes that she has no idea how far she would have to go to escape the influence of her aunt.
Yet, the scene had to resolve well for her (as I randomly determined at the start), so I had to figure out a way to make that happen. But, again thanks to the cards, that’s where the detonator comes in. She is in control now. Jay made sure of it—ironic, if you consider that he doesn’t believe in control according to his own words and actions. I don’t know how well off she really is, but that’s Fiasco for you. If this was a real game, I think the player asked for a white die, so the other players got to set up a scene for her where even a good outcome doesn’t feel great. Something like, “It’s you and jay in a train cabin, and he’s determined to see this through, even though you have reservations.” And when it all resolved, she got a measure of control, which is probably what she wanted, but at what cost?
In any regard, she can’t keep the white die during act 1, and has to give it to someone else. Let’s give it to Jay. I think he’s being a true friend, given the circumstances.
- Bill: White 0, Black 0
- Ash: White 1, Black 1
- Jay: White 2, Black 1
We have one more scene left before we roll on the tilt table. One scene for Jay, and I know it’ll end poorly for him. Let’s see what card will come up for him.
Would you believe me when I told you that, yet again, Hug the Crocodile came up first? Well, whatever Jay is up to, it will be in the best interest of Ash, I guess. Okay, lets draw another card:
#02 Fight The Giant

A tiny person standing with raised fists in front of a massive giant holding a large tree as if it was a club, looking menacing.
Your hero will have to face their adversary at some point. Why not right now?
Well. Who is Jay’s adversary, really? What is he going to do about it in this moment? And how does this tie into the other, repeated, card?
