#RPGaDAY2026 Day 1: Discipline

Almost missed the kickoff for this years #RPGaDAy2026. Typical.

I had quite a blast with it last year, and it helped me kickstart this blog (which has since fallen back to slumber, because it’s me doing it). So, let’s see if I can bring this thing back from the abyss to post about *something* daily.

This year’s theme is suggested to be about “Characters” influenced by the daily prompt and all that. Not sure how much I’ll stick to that, but you never know until you do.

Well, today’s prompt is “Discipline” and the weekly theme is “Drive” so let’s talk about a character very close to me: Me.

I turned 41 this year, and was recently diagnosed with ADHD. Not really a surprise, but here we are. Maybe, just maybe, this will help me get some stuff in my life on track. Namely, all that creative energy that I cannot, despite all my best effort, turn into something real. Like the story I’m writing. Or like the story I should be editing. Or like the games I’m running and should do a better job preparing for.

Or.

Like this blog. I started this thing to talk about games I love. Celebrate the hobby. Showcase some of my work within it.

We’re talking about discipline and drive and I’ve got neither. I want to. So many ideas, thoughts, wants and dreams and hopes and bla bla bla. Not writer’s block, just myself being in my own way. Every step heavy and full of doubt and a lack of energy, even though all I want to do is this. Write. Design. Work on the shit I love.

But. I. Can’t.

Well, it’s #RPGaDay2026. Another year, but it’s different now. I now know the thing I already knew, but can seek help with it. Officially, medically.

I think the reason I wanted to start with this personal look at myself is because I know I’m not alone in this. I think many of us face obstacles outside of our control. Or for which support is lacking. Money, doctors, family, who knows what’s the reason why so many of us can’t engage with the creative side of ourselves, tell the stories we want or draw that thing or make something inside of us real out there. For me, it’s this disability holding be back for 41 years. Who knows where I would be if this was something someone, anyone, would have realized about me when I was 14. When I was a fidgety child with too many emotions and never enough focus. That just wants to play video games and never did any homework.

Well, here’s to a new year, a new challenge. If I can do it, so can anyone. If you’re reading this and feel what I feel, I believe in you.
